Precision Planting Monitor Created for D&E Precision Agriculture

D&E Precision Farming commissioned Oid to design a product that could withstand

the high structural, operational, mechanical and aesthetic demands of their industry.

The result was a rugged and ergonomic exterior cabinet that utilized GPS and touch

screen technology while maximizing D&E’s innovative hardware and software used

throughout their fleet of tractors and airplanes.

Process

Project Proposal- Identify areas of improvement

The product, as the customer had already been marketing, did not adequately meet

the requirements of new tractor, airplane and agricultural machinery cabins.

The equipment was very heavy weight, with limited operational interface. Our

proposal included a reconfiguration of the product format, both in its position and

orientation, enlarging the screen, facilitating easy access; ultimately integrating the

product to a new era of agricultural machinery.

R&D

This conceptual work required more than 15 avenues of exploration, before tackling

the technical development. We conducted several innovation and creativity

workshops that allowed us to detect value add opportunities.

Project Scope-Phase 1- Improve UI

We reconfigured the product format by changing its position, orientation, introducing

vertical format and enlarging the screen. This opened up further benefits in the

following stages of the project.

Prototype

In the layout stage, we worked with the latest in 3D printing technology to obtain a

real version of the design and thus test, select and improve each aspect during all

stages. Finally, we built the product by injecting engineering plastics, reinforced

with fiberglass and UV treatment to protect from sun exposure.

Final Result

The result was a state-of-the-art, innovative product, with high performance and

resistance. Improved innovation allowed our client, D&E Precision Agriculture, a

product that competed worldwide with other products in the field.
